MP for Leicester East visits Judgemeadow
In late February, the corridors and classrooms of Judgemeadow Community College buzzed with enthusiasm, as our students warmly welcomed Shivani Raja – the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leicester East – into school, to talk about community engagement and interview for the student podcast.While touring our school, guided by Associate Principal Alex Grainge and Jenny Piper-Gale, Deputy CEO of Lionheart Educational Trust, Shivani and our senior leaders discussed how we could work together for the benefit of the local community. She also enjoyed learning more about our school's ethos and HEART values - happiness, excellence, ambition, respect and teamwork – which guide students on their learning journeys, giving them the skills to flourish both inside and outside the classroom
The highlight of the visit, however, was Shivani's appearance on our student-led podcast, 'In The Meadows,' hosted by Year 11 student Mahek. Shivani opened up about her upbringing in Rushey Mead and her own time in education before lifting the lid on her political career, outlining her journey from volunteering in a local Conservative Association to being elected as an MP in the 2024 General Election.
“We were very pleased to meet Shivani and to have the opportunity to showcase everything that makes Judgemeadow Community College a great place to learn and work," explained Associate Principal, Alex Grainge.
“Our student podcast team are also grateful for the time she spent during their interview for ‘In The Meadows’, which is just one example of how we support our students to broaden their horizons and gain a broad range of invaluable skills.
“As a school, we are passionate about forging strong links across the local community; meeting Shivani has no doubt provided our students with inspiration on the importance of finding ways to champion the causes that matter to them.”
On visiting our school, Shivani Raja MP said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Judgemeadow Community College to see the fantastic learning environment that has been fostered by both staff and students alike.
“From their student-hosted podcast, 'In the Meadows', to the fantastic facilities that encourage growth and learning for all students, the school is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of the Lionheart Trust and Judgemeadow staff and I'm proud to support schools like Judgemeadow across Leicester East.”
