Judgemeadow Students Commemorate Remembrance Day at Evington Memorial

This Remembrance Day, Year 9 students from Judgemeadow Community College attended a commemorative service at the Evington Memorial on the Village Green.

Led by Councillor Zuffar Huq and supported by the Friends of Evington, the service offered our Year 9 students a moment to reflect on the importance of peace and the sacrifices made by previous generations.

During the service, students observed a traditional two-minute silence and recited powerful poetry to honour those who served. Four students who are part of the army cadets wore their uniforms to attend, adding to the respectful atmosphere of the event.

Associate Principal Alex Grainge spoke about the value of marking Remembrance Day, saying, “Teaching students about Remembrance Day is essential for fostering gratitude and respect for those who fought for our freedoms. It’s an important reminder of the resilience and sacrifices made by so many.”

One student reflected on the day’s impact, sharing, “Learning about Remembrance Day helps me appreciate what I have today. It’s a reminder that we should never take our rights and freedoms for granted.”

Judgemeadow Community College is proud to support events like these that connect our students with the wider community and deepen their understanding of history and remembrance.
