March 24, 2021

Dhruv Solanki, a Year 9 Judgemeadow student has took on Cancer Research's Walk All Over Cancer challenge. Here is his story..

The aim

I will be taking up the challenge on walking 10,000 steps daily in the whole of March

The cause

I am doing it in memory of my Dad’s Sister (44) and my Great Grandfather (98) who I both lost through cancer in 2015 and 2016.

“It will not be possible without all of your help!”

You can still help: go to his fundraising page: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/dhruv-walk-all-over-cancer-2021

So far he has raised over £3,000 ... an incredible achievement!

What is Cancer Research UK and what do they do?

    • Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in the UK who raise money to go into vital, life-changing research.
    • Cancer research is research into cancer to identify causes and develop strategies for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. Cancer research ranges from epidemiology, molecular bioscience to the performance of clinical trials to evaluate and compare applications of the various cancer treatments.
    • For every £1 donated, 80p is used to beat cancer (the remaining 20p goes towards raising funds for the future). The majority that we spend each year goes towards our ground-breaking research. And thanks to research, cancer survival is improving and has doubled over the past 40 years in the UK.

These are the statistics from 1971 to 2011: The statistics show the Cancer survival rates has been increasing rather drastically through these decades and with all our help, all across the UK, we will help the scientists find a solution to this problem. Lockdown has slowed this process down a lot. However, with all our donations it will bring Cancer research back to the top priority. People like us, use our own hard work, time and determination to help Charities find the best solutions. These numbers are getting bigger and bigger over the years with only our help! With only our donations, that people that have been diagnosed with cancer have a higher rate of survival compared to 1970.
